BUSINESS HIGHLIGHT: Beville Counseling Services

What is the name of your business?

Beville Counseling

Briefly tell us about yourself.

I am a woman who is constantly learning and evolving as a person. Today, I can say I am a compassionate and proud Black woman who was born and raised in GR by a resilient mother from Alabama. I enjoy laughter, deep conversations, and good food (especially seafood and chocolate). I am a licensed professional counselor who finds joy in walking with people on their journey, helping them be the best and most healed version of themselves!

Tell me about your business and what inspired you to get started.

Beville Counseling is a group practice that provides outpatient mental health therapy. We currently offer sessions virtually to Michigan based clients ages 9 and older. The business began in 2020 and has evolved from a solo practice to a group that currently has 8 therapists! We are a racially and culturally diverse group of therapists who help clients dealing with concerns related to anxiety, depression, relationships, identity, trauma, grief, and many other areas of need. I chose to be a therapist while in high school after taking Psychology class. I knew there was value in providing a safe emotional space for people be seen, heard and valued. My journey as a therapist has evolved into me helping develop newer therapists which is why I call my business a “teaching practice”. My desire to help people has shifted to me helping one person at a time to helping so many many more through the therapists I am honored to train and teach.

What products/services do you offer and what sets you apart from others in the market?

We currently offer virtual, outpatient mental health therapy to Michigan based clients ages 9 and older. We are a racially and culturally diverse group of therapists who help clients dealing with concerns related to anxiety, depression, relationships, identity, trauma, grief, and many other areas of need. What sets us apart is our diversity, the welcoming spirit we give to everyone who walks through our virtual doors and the growing number of concerns that we are able to help treat.

What problem are you solving with your product or service?

We are treating an often neglected aspect of our being, mental health. By addressing our mental health, we are able to address every other aspect of our lives because it is affected by and affects everything! When individuals address, treat and manage their mental health, we can have healthier families, communities and world. And even if there is no major issue to solve or address (at that moment), there is priceless value to having a space where people can be seen, heard and valued.

Can you share a specific milestone or achievement that you are particularly proud of?

I am so proud whenever I receive positive feedback from clients who are working with our therapists. My greatest achievement moments are when I see clients grow and change: when I see someone who was living in the cloud of depression begin to experience life, when I witness someone set boundaries and respect themselves and when I hear a client shift from fear talk to hope talk. These are the proud moments!!

What advice would you give to someone starting their own business in this industry?

Reach out and build community with other therapists in private practice. We need each other as we support our clients and it’s super important to have those you can ask for business advice along with therapeutic advice.

Tell us a fun or interesting fact about your business!

Therapists have therapists too!
